With the addition of a segregated cycling facility, improved access to public transportation, and added traffic calming measures, Churchill Avenue was the first street in Ottawa to successfully implement complete street design practices. The Churchill Avenue Rehabilitation Project was a leap in the City’s commitment to provide sustainable transportation options by delivering a safe and accessible street environment for residents of the Westboro community.

Streetscape elements including site furnishings, street tree planting, and material selections aid in the development of an intuitive design solution for the high-use, multimodal streetscape. 

The transformation of Churchill Avenue maintains the historic character and charm of Westboro Village, while delivering a strong cyclist and pedestrian link into the commercial sector of Westboro and ultimately downtown Ottawa.
