Located in the heart of Ampersand, a compact urban development situated in the community of Barrhaven, Lindenshade Park is part of a cohesive public realm where the same development principles are continued throughout, from the doorstep of the private residences into the community park.

Lindenshade Park is a significant urban design project for the City of Ottawa in that it provides a unique gathering space for the community and showcases the latest in sustainable design principles and techniques. From the initial master planning stages of the community, the park site was identified to become a local destination and a landmark for the neighbourhood. The park is framed by multi-family residential buildings, and walkway connections and viewpoints were developed to integrate the park into the surrounding landscape while maintaining a safe environment.

A variety of environmentally innovative techniques were incorporated into the overall design of the park including stormwater infiltration, bio-swales, permeable paving, solar accent lighting, and diverse flora. Drought-tolerant sod promotes active play in key areas including the central lawn. Passive areas are treated with native grasses to minimize maintenance requirements and increase the overall ecological value of the park.
